| GLIOBLASTOMA MULTIFORME With the exception of the brainstem gliomas, GLIOBLASTOMA has the worst prognosis of any central nervous system (CNS) malignancy. Treatments consist of open craniotomy with surgical resection of as much of the tumor as possible, followed by concurrent or sequential chemo/radiotherapy, gamma knife radiosurgery, and symptomatic management with corticosteroids. Prognosis is poor, with a median survival time of approximately 14 months. Since brain cancer affects a relatively small portion of the population, there is a greater need for more public awareness and fundraising. We must recognize the importance of investing in the early stages of the most novel sectors of the discovery and development pipeline in order to “buy down the risk” for those doing research and speed progress of innovative new treatments to the patients. GREY MATTERS! This is the swiftest of cancers. There is no time to think or feel when you get this diagnosis. If you are not quick on your feet with a plan to move, you will loose this battle before it begins. PLEASE HELP US HELP THOSE IN RESEARCH AND PUBLIC AWARENESS OF THIS DEADLY DISEASE. There is no determined cause....we are all at risk! |
